Fruifly affect over 200 fruits and vegetables crops. In Kenya's horticultural industry, fruitfly is responsible for economic losses of about KES. 50 billion annually.

1

Fruitfly pest lays hundreds of eggs in fruits. The eggs hatch into larvae which in turn feed and destroy fruits, causing them to fall on the ground and rot.

2

The fallen fruits become a media for mass multiplication of fruitflies in a farm if not collected and properly disposed or treated.

3

Solarbag,® is used by farmers to collect and treat fallen, infested and or rejected fruits to prevent multiplication of pests such as fruitflies in farms, fruit markets, pack houses and other places.

4

The bag is designed to treat (solarize) fallen, infested or rejected fruits by use of solar energy (heat). The heat rapidly kills fruitfly (eggs and larvae) and compost fruits into useful farm manure.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

1

Collect fallen and rejected fruits and put them in the bag.

2

Tie the bag near the opening to enclose the fruits.

3

Expose the bag to direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks or more to kill the pests and stop multiplication.

4

Remove the decomposed fruits to reuse the bag.
